What is the Holocaust?
- The Holocaust was the state-sponsored, systematic persecution and annihilation of European Jewry by Nazi Germany and its collaborators, between 1933 and 1945. Jews were the primary victims - six million were murdered.
- The Word Holocaust, was from the Greek words holos, (Which means Whole) and kaustos, (Which means Burned
- It was used to describe a sacrificial offering burned on an altar. Now it has taken on a new horrible meaning: The mass murder of some 6 million Jews as well as of some other persecuted groups.
- Targeted Jews, Gypsies, the disabled, Slavic people, Poles, Russians, Jehovah’s Witnesses, and homosexuals.
